O presidente do Politécnico de Portalegre integrou a comitiva portuguesa que esteve no Quénia, no início de fevereiro, liderada pelo IPAV – Instituto Padre António Vieira, para estabelecer cooperação e as bases de trabalho, no âmbito do projeto GoBlue, que visa contribuir para o desenvolvimento da economia azul no território costeiro deste país africano.
O Politécnico de Portalegre e a ESTM – Politécnico de Leiria, que também integrou a missão, vão participar na criação do Plano Estratégico e de Ação para o Turismo e Património Cultural dos seis condados da costa do Quénia (Kwale, Mombaça, Taita Taveta, Kilifi, Tana River e Lamu).
Na componente de Turismo e Património Cultural, o projeto GoBlue é financiado pela União Europeia e gerido e cofinanciado pelo Camões, I.P., sendo um dos parceiros o IPAV.
Foram também lançadas as bases para a criação da “Academic Alliance Portugal – Quénia”, no âmbito da liderança colaborativa, do turismo e da economia, numa parceria entre as duas referidas instituições de ensino superior portuguesas e três universidades quenianas.
No decorrer desta missão internacional, entre 1 e 6 de fevereiro, o presidente do Politécnico de Portalegre, Prof. Luís Loures, visitou três universidades, para divulgação da oferta formativa do IP Portalegre: Universidade Técnica de Mombaça, Universidade de Pwani (Kilifi) e Universidade de Taita Taveta (Voi). Com esta última, assinou um protocolo para o desenvolvimento de cooperação bilateral, que abarca as áreas do empreendedorismo, investigação, ensino e mobilidade.
A agenda da visita ao Quénia contemplou ainda um encontro com a embaixadora de Portugal no país e reuniões, no Ministério da Educação e no Ministério do Turismo.
Estão, ainda, agendados encontros com representantes do tecido empresarial e das instituições de ensino superior cabo-verdianos, bem como com a presidência das câmaras municipais locais, para o reforço e desenvolvimento da cooperação e trabalho conjunto. O objetivo passa por potenciar as sinergias existentes e criar outras através de Networking junto ao tecido empresarial e junto do domínio diplomático. O Portugal Polytechnics International Network (PPIN), recorde-se, é um importante instrumento com vista à internacionalização do Ensino Superior Politécnico, contribuindo para estreitar relações com congéneres de países que estão identificados como mercados estratégicos. Paralelamente, os convénios e parcerias firmadas no âmbito deste tipo de iniciativas são de fulcral importância para os estudantes, que assim têm a possibilidade de estar mais bem preparados para os desafios de um mundo globalizado. O projeto PPIN envolve 15 instituições politécnicas, com o Politécnico do Porto na liderança, e representa um investimento superior a 1,8 milhões de euros, cofinanciados pelo COMPETE 2020, Portugal 2020 e a União Europeia, através do Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER). Segundo os responsáveis do CCISP, “o processo de internacionalização dos politécnicos portugueses tem vindo a ganhar muita expressão nos últimos anos, o que é visível no aumento dos estudantes internacionais no País”, avaliam os membros do PPIN.

Ao longo destes sete dias, está prevista uma ação de promoção junto das escolas secundárias nas ilhas de Santiago, S. Vicente e do Sal, com o objetivo de estabelecer contactos de proximidade com os dirigentes destas instituições de ensino e com os estudantes dos alunos do Ensino Secundário.
